  • Cases Consumer and Cases Industrial are the two general categorizations. Most posts are in the consumer category. But to get this better structured, the following new tags were introduced (new categories will come with appropriate postings):

  • Service Customization: MC of services -- a future growth field!

  • Books: Customization of books, print-on-demand, personalization of books.

  • Clothing: Mass Customization of apparel and related items, with T-Shirts as an own sub-category.

  • Footwear: Mass customization and some open innovation in footwear, with Sneakers (sport shoes) as a sub-category.

  • Furniture - Home and related items Gifts: Products you typically customize to give them as a gift -- or which are nice customizable gifts for the Holidays!

The International Mass Customization Case Collection

The International Mass Customization Case Collection is an initiative of more than 25 international researchers collaborating to build a broad basis for empirical research on mass customisation.

The idea is to document current practices of mass customisation businesses in a form that allows rich cross-case analysis and learning from previous experiences. A special issue of the International Journal on Mass Customization with the first eight mass customization case studies has been published in August 2006.

  • APC, a provider of data centre infrastructure and services from the US and Denmark [Abstract]

  • MarelliMotori, a manufacturer of electric motors from Italy [Abstract]

  • F.L.Smidth, a Denmark-based manufacturer of complex process plants for the construction industry.[Abstract]

  • Adidas, an international manufacturer of sports goods based in Germany [Abstract]
  • Left foot, a Finland-based worldwide operating provider of custom men’s shoes [Abstract]

  • Design&MC Lab, a research lab and model plant for the mass customisation of footwear based in the Italian shoemaking capital, Vigevano. [Abstract]
  • Steppenwolf, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of custom bicycles, and [Abstract]

  • Turo Tailor, a Finnish manufacturer of apparel (men’s suits). [Abstract]

In meinem ersten Buch zumn Thema finden Sie ebenfalls eine Vielzahl von Fallstudien zu Mass Customization der ersten Stunde. Viele dieser Angebote exisitieren heute nicht mehr in dieser Form. Die Grundprinzipien sind aber noch unveraendert. Aus Copyright-Gruenden darf ich diese Buch leider nicht online stellen, sondern muss Sie auf die Printfassung des Buchs verweisen.
